2016 was a light seed crop year. Due to a very full organizing schedule (Medicinal Herb Growing & Marketing Conference, Northwest Permaculture Convergence) and due to starting a new planting near Port Townsend, Washington. My Port Townsend planting being only one year old and limited in species had a light seed yield. My Hot Springs, Montana planting was decimated by grasshoppers for the 2nd year in a row, so only the sheep sorrel and catnip seed made it through that but Janell at Towanda Gardens let me harvest some seed there. My planting in Rice, northeast Washington did well, but I wasn’t there to catch all of the seed harvest. To top it off, I did wildcraft a bit of seed. All in all I harvested seed from only 24 species this year. A steady drop from my high point of over 80 species collected in 2011. Hopefully we will increase in 2017. These seeds are not organically certified but were grown with organic methods. I have been farming and gardening organically since 1972.
