We will build and plant a hugelkultur as well as examine recently built ones. The workshop will include touring 3 properties with a dozen hugelkulturs built over the last 4 years. From gigantic scale built with excavators to small backyard scale built by hand. This class is ourdoors, be prepared for the weather.
Thanks to all the people who attended the June 14 Soil Conference in Chimacum. Great people excited about soil! Most of them are, or have been, farmers. Michael and Ashley put together a delicious lunch and eating and chatting lasted till 12:30. We brainstormed a list of topics to consider. Biochar got the most air time and most topics were only briefly discussed. Some people had to leave early.
On June 14, I hosted a small Soil Conference in Chimacum, Washington. We talked about how to regenerate soils and produce nutrient-dense food and how to sequester carbon in soils and farming systems. I had been studying in preparation for the conference and that led me to Dan Kittredge and the Bionutrient Food Association. I expect there will be a lot more information on soil following my June 14 conference.

The Farmers Convergence & Mixer on December 3, 2017 was a success so we anticipate it will become an annual event.
