Here are a few notes on Planetary Regeneration Solutions I made for my presentation at the Earth Repair Rally in Port Townsend, Washington state, December 10. They reflect some of my take-away thoughts from the Global Earth Repair Summit.
Michael Pilarski explains the process of ecosystem building in all its facets. Whether you are restoring a native ecosystem back to its original state, or creating hybrid ecosystems that humans can enjoy full-time, featuring productive plants and animals for economic value set in the context of a fully-functioning ecosystem, you will find tons of valuable information in this video. We mean TONS in the literal sense, because as Michael will explain, it's about increasing the WEIGHT of your ecosystem in biomass, living or decomposing organic matter, on your site.
A message for Earth-friendly folks, The Ecosystem Restoration Camps are having a membership drive and I (Michael Pilarski) would like to put in a good word for them.
Thanks to all the people who attended the June 14 Soil Conference in Chimacum. Great people excited about soil! Most of them are, or have been, farmers. Michael and Ashley put together a delicious lunch and eating and chatting lasted till 12:30. We brainstormed a list of topics to consider. Biochar got the most air time and most topics were only briefly discussed. Some people had to leave early.
On June 14, I hosted a small Soil Conference in Chimacum, Washington. We talked about how to regenerate soils and produce nutrient-dense food and how to sequester carbon in soils and farming systems. I had been studying in preparation for the conference and that led me to Dan Kittredge and the Bionutrient Food Association. Here is a report on my June 13 conversation with Dan Kittredge, founder and director of the Bionutrient Food Association. I expect there will be a lot more information on soil following my June 14 conference.
Permaculturist Michael Pilarski talks about his first year hugelkultur diversified planting near Port Townsend, Washington. He also gives a mini-tour of the garden while in the process of mulching with "hogfuel," a 50-50 mix of bark and wood chips. Filmed June 15, 2017.
A few comments by Michael Pilarski, Friends of the Trees Society.
